Parker: Survival will be best award

Scott Parker has spoken of his joy at winning the Football Association of writers of football of the year, but insists on will mean nothing if West Ham drop in the Championship.


Parker, 30, has impressed this season despite one side falters dangerously close to the brink of the Premier League.


As well as the FWA award, form of club of Parker was shortlisted for the player's Association of professional footballers of the year and settle in the national team of England.


Parker - he began his career at Charlton before spells with Chelsea and Newcastle before joining the hammers in 2007 - will receive the award at a gala dinner at the Lancaster London Hotel on May 12. Parker said that he is enjoying the best season of his career and admitted that it is an honour to join the legendary Bobby Moore as the only winners FWA in West Ham.


"I am absolutely delighted, he said."It's great to get the prize. When was I received the phone call to say that he had won speechless actually. I'm really, really pleased. It is always surprised when you get Awards - always there is an element of surprise. I'm sorry I've been playing some good things so I'm glad only that I have been elected and people appreciate what I have been doing.


"Usually is at the other end of the League, where the players are winning,", he added."There are probably plenty of other candidates - Charlie Adam, Gareth Bale - am really buzz people are appreciating what I'm doing or what I have done, what I am trying to do. "


While waiting to pick up the prestigious award for his personal performances, Parker maintained that he is focused on the survival of the Premier League for West Ham.


"He recently said the main focus this year to stay in the Premier League with West Ham and if we do not do personal praise will be very, very disappointing," said. "Our main goal is to stay in the Premier League. We have big five, big games left and hope that we can get the points we need and stay in the League.


"I can not explain the way in is gone for me on a personal level." Recognition and awards are massive...I fully agree on the moon. I'm playing well, obviously want to be in a better position in the League, but on a personal level things are good for me to go. I have to maintain continuous, working hard and staying on the right track.


"[As by poor performance of the team] is not only this season", he added.Last season we had our problems and he's gone in this season. We have a very good team and some very good players, but for one reason or another have not gathered what we need. If I could put my finger on it I would. We have to try to pick up some results. But we still have a chance. "
